# Seasons and Residences

Seasons are weekly competitions among residents.

To become a resident, players must mint a residence pass for the current season.

When minting it, players assign their residence to a city from their portfolio.

Having a residence is the only way to automatically contribute to a city.

Read [here](https://docs.civitia.org/game-mechanics/contributions-and-tax-points) a detailed explanation on increasing contributions and Tax Points.

### Season rewards

There are four different season rewards that players can obtain:

#### Resident rent boosts

Residents receive a x2 (+100%) booster on all rents earned in their city of residence during the season.

Players who renew their residence in the same city receive an additional x1.1 (+10%) boost on top of the resident rent boost.

*Example of how rent boosts and loyalty work:*

| Season | Residence | Rent boost |
| ------ | --------- | ---------- |
| 1      | Tokyo     | x2         |
| 2      | Tokyo     | x2.1       |
| 3      | Tokyo     | x2.2       |
| 4      | Singapore | x2         |
| 5      | Tokyo     | x2         |

#### Jackpot rewards

Jackpot rewards accumulate in various squares across the game board (e.g. jail square).

These rewards form a prize pool for cities to compete over during each season.

Cities compete based on their Score (*total contributions - total sabotages*) during a season.

At the end of each season, the top 6 cities with the highest net score receive the jackpot rewards:

* 1st place: 40% of the jackpot
* 2nd place: 25% of the jackpot
* 3rd place: 18% of the jackpot
* 4th place: 10% of the jackpot
* 5th place: 5% of the jackpot
* 6th place: 2% of the jackpot

*Example if a player A did 3000 contributions to Tokyo and total jackpot was 1M INIT:*

<table data-full-width="true"><thead><tr><th>Rank</th><th width="138">City</th><th width="111">Score</th><th width="173">Jackpot</th><th>Residents contributions</th><th width="164">Player A contributions</th><th>Player A earnings</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td><td>Dubai</td><td>65000</td><td>400K INIT (40%)</td><td>70000</td><td>-</td><td>-</td></tr><tr><td>2</td><td>Tokyo</td><td>50000</td><td>250K INIT (25%)</td><td>60000</td><td>3000 (5%)</td><td>12500 INIT (5%)</td></tr><tr><td>3</td><td>New York</td><td>25000</td><td>180K INIT (18%)</td><td>35000</td><td>-</td><td>-</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### SILVER rewards

Players earn SILVER in direct proportion to their residence contributions (1:1).

*For example, if a player did 3000 contributions to Tokyo in the current season, he'll earn 3000 SILVER.*

#### Initia VIP rewards

Civitia's VIP scoring mechanism is based on SILVER earned in each stage.

*If player A has earned 3000 SILVER during the current stage and the total SILVER earned by all players is 30000 SILVER, he will receive 10% of the esINIT distributed to Civitia VIP.*
